Wärtsilä equips Kleven Verft AHTS' for Maersk Supply Service
Norway’s Kleven Verft is constructing a series of Anchor-Handling Tug Supply vessels for Maersk Supply Service, featuring integrated solutions from Wärtsilä.

The deal includes six vessels to be delivered between Q4 2016 and Q3 2017, as well as an option for a further four to be delivered in the beginning of 2018.

Each 95 m vessel will be equipped with Wärtsilä integrated systems including a complete power generation solution based on Wärtsilä 32 and 20 generating set, electrical distribution and drives system, vessel automation system and propulsion system, comprising two Wärtsilä controlled pitch propellers (CPP) and five Wärtsilä transverse thrusters.

"The design of these vessels displays the need to provide safe operations with reliability and efficiency,” says director Peter Kragh Jacobsen, head of special projects & newbuilding at Maersk Supply Service. “An example of this is that we have selected Wärtsilä's fully integrated, fuel efficient and flexible propulsion system to give the performance we need. This integration capability will enable good fuel economy, low emissions, and excellent station keeping. This certainly adds considerable value to the equipment package.”

Wärtsilä is also to supply comprehensive project services, including project management, engineering, yard support, and commissioning.

"With offshore oil and gas exploration moving to deeper waters and ever more challenging conditions, the emphasis is increasingly on efficient and reliable vessels with low operating costs and a minimal environmental footprint,” says Magnus Miemois, vp, solutions, Wärtsilä Ship Power. “These needs largely explain why Wärtsilä integrated solutions have been selected for these vessels.”
